Self Confidence Tips
Standing and moving well signals self-confidence as well as grace. Try a few of the following tests to see where you stand on the subject of posture.
Are you sitting down? Do! Can you fit both hands – flat, one above the other – between your bosom & your waist? If you can’t you’re not sitting correctly. Aim to sit up tall but rigid with the small of your against the back of your chair.
Cross your ankles, if you like, but never your knees. Why? Try it in front of a mirror & see.
When writing or reading, lean forward from your hips, keeping your back straight. When you sit on the floor, do so with legs crossed, tailor-style; lean forward a bit, keeping your back straight. Just remember ‘back straight & everything else will fall into line – a graceful line that not only fells well but looks better too.
Now stand up with your back against well, feet 8 cm (3 in) from it. If your posture is close to perfect, your head, shoulders and buttock will be touching the well; the small of your back want to be more than a hands thickness away.
When you re standing still, learn it to do as the models do, one foot turned out a little, the foot a bit ahead. Keep your back straight, your knees relaxed your hands at sides or you’re behind your back, for an easy, graceful stance.
Check your profile in a full-length mirror & drop an imaginary plumb line straight down from the top of your Head to the bottom of your feet. Dose it bisect you at the shoulder, the hip, the knee & the ankle bone? It should Ply posture tricks to help straighten you out.
Pretend you’re a puppet on strings being pulled up, up, up. Try to touch an imaginary ceiling with the top of your head. Make believe your tummy and back are bookends & squeeze them tightly together.
Think of your body as a stack of bricks.

Still not convinced that correct posture can work wonders for your figure? Try this test: stand as you usually do & measure your waist with a tape measure. Now pull up your rib cage & measure again. Slimmer? Doesn’t it seem like magic? It is more like muscles, and muscles must be maintained to make sure you’re always sitting, standing, walking prettily. And what about your clothes? Posture can make3 or mar the look on you. No matter how slim you are an awkward stance runic the effect of good clothes. Hunched shoulders, slumping & slouching mean that necklines, waistbands & hemlines are all awry. Tight-fitting skirts & ruby knits just emphasize humps & bumps.
Concentrate on loose, easy-fitting styles – until you get your posture right. Beware of wearing a shoulder bag all the time, as they encourage hunched shoulders.
Choose an exercise or two from those described below. They’re all designed to strengthen back muscles & to straighten slumped shoulder & sway back (the two most common posture faults). If done regularly they can help you along the road to a better posture & profile.
To prevent round shoulders do this exercise in either a sitting or standing position. Raise shoulders towards ears. Squeeze shoulders together, without arching lower back. Count four, and then release shoulders, pulling them down.
To re – centre your pelvis & correct a sway back an inward curvature at the lower end of the spine is known as a sway back. It can be improved by doing this exercise regularly. Stand with back against a wall, feet a small distance away from it. Tilt pelvis, & try to flatten back of waist against the wall. Got it? Now repeat. To strengthens the muscles of your back & help correct a sway back lie on the floor. Pull in abdomen so small of back presses against floor; hold, and then relax. Lift one leg & bend it into your chest & hold for a few seconds. When you change legs, see if you can hold the small of the back in the pressed-against-the-floor position.
Every effort you make to improve your posture & give movements grace, every 10 minutes you spend exercising for a firm, lithe body will bring you dividends – in the way your clothes fit & move, in the way you feel about yourself, in the way others see you. A strong, upright body speaks volumes about its owner, signaling loud and clear your attitude towards your and your life.
